The tattoo removal laser provides high levels of energy over very brief periods, resulting in the reduction of tattoos and other types of unwanted, pigmented lesions. During treatment, the laser is used specifically to target and “shatter” the tattoo ink pigments or lesion at a microscopic level to be dispersed and carried away by the body’s white blood cells.
The outcome of the treatment is dependent on the colours of the tattoos – tattoos with black and green inks tend to be removed better than red, blue and yellow inks.
Nearly all tattoos and pigmented lesions require a series of treatments. The number of treatments required to achieve optimum results varies widely among patients.
Some downtime can be expected, with some redness, mild swelling, and occasionally blister and scab formation that can last between 1 – 2 weeks.
